MODERN DAY SWINGERS
In modern society, I have noticed major social changes in the traditional 'court ship dating' structure. It seems as though the children of my generation and the previous are falling into the classification of the modern day swinger.
Now let me elaborate on what I mean by 'swinger' and how it is relevant to American society today.
Commitment used to be something expected of a person when they were 'dating' a particular individual, and certainly, the idea of 'dating' multiple people all at once seemed taboo as well. In the traditions of court ship, a man was expected to wine and dine his date, as sex was not an option on the first date nor was it even on the second if a lady wanted to maintain a classy image.
Yet this traditional ideology has changed forever. People of my generation do not go on several dates before they have sex, and nor do they just date one person when they are single. Rather they enjoy the connection that they have with one person, and enjoy the connection that they have with another. And in this sense, they are sort of like swingers because they date multiple partners.
Interestingly enough, the modern day swingers know that they are dating others, but they don't necessarily get turned on by watching their significant other make it with another person. It is like modern day swingers, like to swing behind closed doors and both partners are aware of this.
